The Sprint Note 5 received a leaked build of Marshmallow 6.0.1 engineering firmware, and as per user’s feedback, root is easily achievable on the freshest release of Android running on a Note 5.
All you need to root Sprint Note 5 on Marshmallow 6.0.1 is a custom recovery like TWRP and Chainfire’s SuperSU v2.68 systemless root.
Systemless root is a new type of root by Chainfire developed specifically to get around the trouble of flashing a custom kernel and setting SELinux to permissive. With systemless root keeps SELinux running in enforcing mode (for a number of security reasons) and also doesn’t modify the system partition, so you can easily install OTA updates.
Upon flashing SuperSU v2.68 via TWRP recovery, your device’s boot image will automatically be patched to allow system-less root on your Sprint Note 5 running on Marshmallow.
Let’s get started..
How to Root Sprint Note 5 Marshmallow 6.0.1
- (Important!) Install Marshmallow compatible TWRP on your Sprint Note 5.
- Install/Flash SuperSU 2.68.
- Reboot device.
- If you get into Kernel Panic Mode, just press and hold “Power + Volume Down” for a few seconds to hot boot the device.
Install Root 5.1
That’s all. Enjoy Marshmallow with root on your Sprint Note 5. To verify root access, download/install any root checker app from the Play Store.
